No bird ever flew nonstop from New York to Tokyo, or raced 15 miles high at triple the speed of sound.
  But birds do something else.
They do not conquer the air; they romance it.

Bestuur der Luchtvaart

One of those "The Days" .

Today had a visit of the DGLV (Belgian aviation authorities) for a planned inspection of my wings and fuselage.
It's always a bit stressy but Mr Brotcorne is truly a very positive and helpfull person who also brings ideas and suggestions on the build.

He started by inspecting both wings, flaps and ailerons checking every little detail.

By noon he started the inspection of the main structure of the fuselage.

All structures were checked and approved.

Some very minor remarks to be done and received some good tip on my engine bracket problem.

I am now allowed to close all the covers and bottom wing skins.

The next time mr Brotcorne will come, will be when the entire plane is ready for it's first flight with all inspectino covers still open for the final inspection.

This was another milestone day and a confirmation that the work done over all these years has been good.

'I got a feeling... that tonight's gonna be a good night...'

Well, I sent of my official request to the Bestuur der Luchtvaart according to the circulaire AIRW03 that will grant me permission to start building my RV-7.

It left by post and they will respond in 30 days. I had some contacts before to Mr Brotcorne and he assured me the plane is already allowed in Belgium and the quality of the kit has been proven.

So it could go quite fast.

The request letter

A few weeks later, i received a letter that a technical engineer from the authorities would come by to check my workshop.
I was at first a bit scared about this idea. After all, this guy is used to visit airplane factories and stands daily next to Boeings. And now he would visit my one car garage with a workbench, self-constructed by some EAA plans and call this my airplane construction hangar. If I would be the guy, I would probably burst out in laughter and not get by for the next hour.

Despite all my feats, the visit went very smooth and was very informal as well. Besides checking adequate lighting and heating, he noted some calibration numbers of my torque wrench and that was it.

Another week later, the official letter came in that I was allowed to start building my RV-7 in my "officially approved" workshop.
