Easy little task today as I only had a short time to work. I pulled out the OAT (outside air temperature) sensor from the Dynon box and installed it on the rear fuselage.
OAT sensor mounts into the ADAHRS module and is used for various calculations such as density altitude and true airspeed calculation.
You cannot just place it anywhere. It can obviously not be exposed to direct sunlight and shouldn't be influenced by hot air being expelled from the exhaust pipes.
The best position according to me is in the rear of the fuselage, centered underneath the horizontal stabiliser.
Installation is as easy as drilling a hole through the skin with first a pilot hole #40 and then enlarging it with a unibit.
The sensor has thread on the end side and a plastic nut screws onto the probe. A very long wire is delivered. As my ADAHRS uses the ADAHRS Vans tray behind the baggage area cover, I'll probably need to shorten it. But that's worries for when I mount the ADAHRS module.
